Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is used as an infrastructure hosting platform by ACCESS Allocations and Operations. NCSA owns and manages billing for this shared AWS account which was transferred from XSEDE with Account ID = uiuc-xsede-cyberinfrastructure.

Requesting Access

ACCESS Allocations staff needing AWS access should contact Nathan.

ACCESS Operations staff needing AWS access should contact JP.

Other ACCESS tracks and the ACO may request AWS access by submitting a ticket that should be routed to the ACCESS-Operations-Services queue. ACCESS Operations leadership will need to make billing arrangement before access can be provided . This AWS account is currently not available to resource providers, researchers, or other members of the ACCESS community.

Usage Instructions

Authorized ACCESS infrastructure administrators can access the account at:

TAGGING STANDARD

ACCESS Operations is proposing that all infrastructure elements and definitions created under the ACCESS AWS account be assigned Tags as follows:

  • WBS = ACCESS RAMPS [<other optional text >]
  • WBS = ACCESS CONECT 1.1 [<other optional text >]
  • WBS = ACCESS CONECT 1.2 [<other optional text >]
  • WBS = ACCESS CONECT 1.3 [<other optional text >]
  • WBS = ACCESS CONECT 1.4 [<other optional text >]

This tagging standard applies to infrastructure and to definitions that don't produce infrastructure, even if free.

These tags designate which ACCESS project should be billed for each element and what team in the projects manages the infrastructure. Using project names instead of functions is intentional.

Notes:

  • Tag all S3 buckets, but objects in the bucket don't have to be tagged
  • Tag all storage volumes in case they remain when associated instances are removed
